Coffee House Poems

The Date

-

We go to a coffee shop on the southeast side of town.

-

There is an 83 year old Austrian woman playing waltzes on a

grand piano.

-

She will soon be homeless.

-

It's Saturday night and the place is full of people on dates.

-

At the table next to us is a 20ish couple. The man is busy texting.

-

He ignores the pianist, his dessert, his date.

-

She stares at the ceiling, her boredom palpable.

-

Two tables up the situation is reversed.

-

The woman texts, the man is ignored.

-

I desperately want to rearrange the couples.
